Full Member (Voting)
Full membership is designated for chief administrative officers (CAOs) whose scope of responsibility meets these six criteria: appointment, policy formulation, budget, appointing authority, organizational relationships, and qualifications; assistant/deputy chief administrative officers; and other senior-level staff in local government who have significant administrative duties and report to a CAO whose position meets the six aforementioned criteria.
Only Full Members may vote and hold elected office in the Association.

Affiliate Member (Non-Voting)
Affiliate Membership is available to individuals who serve in appointed or professional local government positions that do not meet ICMA’s criteria for Full Membership.

Affiliate Member – Company Representative (Non-Voting)
Affiliate Member – Company Representative status is available to individuals representing private firms, nonprofit organizations, or other entities that provide services or products to local governments.

Student Member - MCMA/APMP (Non-Voting)
Student Membership is available at a reduced Student rate to individuals who are currently enrolled in a college or university program related to public administration, public policy, planning, or a closely related field. Student Members may participate in MCMA and APMP educational and networking opportunities but are non-corporate members and do not have voting rights or eligibility to hold office.

Life Member
Eligibility includes:

Members with 25 years of eligible membership who retire from active municipal service, or

Members with at least 15 years of eligible membership who retire at age 65 or later.

In addition, the Executive Board may grant Life Membership to any retired member who, in its judgment, has made an outstanding contribution to the development of the profession. Life Members are considered paid-up members and retain their membership status without further dues.
